“Parade of Success” held at Dobson Elementary

DOBSON — Organizers of Dobson Elementary’s first “Parade of Success” Friday morning say the jaunt around town’s main goal was to show students the community is behind them as they open their school year. Media Specialist Stephanie Bode credited Principal Sharia Templeton with seeing a similar idea in another school and adapting it for the Tigers.She said more than 400 students participated, along with music from the Surry Central Marching Band and flag corps. Bode credited volunteer traffic control provided by the Dobson Volunteer Fire Department, Surry County Sheriff’s Office, Dobson and Surry Community College Police with the successful march.

Mount Airy saw a two-goal lead slip away in a 4-4 tie against Thomasville on Thursday night at Shelton Stadium.The Bears (2-0-2) had a 3-1 lead at halftime on two goals from Christian Cabrera and another from Robert Brown. Mount Airy and Thomasville have played some classics in the last several years.The two teams rich in football tradition will meet again Friday night when the Bulldogs make the trip to Shelton Stadium for the Granite Bears’ home opener.It will be the sixth straight season Mount Airy and Thomasville played in a nonconference game.
