HARTSVILLE, S.C. The Surry Community College softball team began the Region X tournament with a bang, taking out the No. 2 seeded-team in the process. But they didnt stop there.
The Knights made a valiant run at the conference title before finishing fourth out of 11 teams. Surry entered the tournament seeded seventh.
We were very excited to come into the tournament and play well. When we faced some of those schools in the regular season, we knew we were better that we proved and we got the opportunity to show that the next time we met. We made a lot of teams look and take notice at the hard work we had put in.
On May 1, the Lady Knights dropped Southeastern C.C. by a count of 12-3. The next game, against second-seeded Aiken Tech, ended with the Lady Knights a 1-0 winner. They followed those wins the next day by losing to Florence-Darlington Tech, 2-0, the beating fifth-seeded USC-Salkehatchie, 2-0, to move on to May 3s championship rounds.
Once there, the Knights fell to Pitt C.C., 2-1 in nine innings. With just nine players on this years roster, Reid hopes the playoff run can boost interest at her school.
They have set the bar pretty high as a first year team, so we want nothing more than to continue that next year.
We are working really hard recruiting for next year and hope to continue training quality softball players to compete at the next level. I will also have seven starters back next year, including Brooke Honeycutt and Brittany Draughn.

Honeycutt was named first team all -region, while Draughn was nominated for the second team. Both girls were also named to the all-tournament team. Surry finished its season with a record of 14-17.
