DOBSON A strong day from sophomore Samantha Mosley was not enough to lift host Surry Central into first place of its tri-meet with North Wilkes and North Surry.
Mosleys 31-foot leap in the triple jump was her best of the season and good for first place in the event. Mosley also won the 200-meter dash, the 100 hurdles and finished second in the high jump.
She had a good day, Surry Central coach Rex Mitchell said. Shes been injured and hasnt been able to train much. For her to get in four events is encouraging. She did that without very much training.
The Golden Eagles Patty Murphy flung the discus a school-record 117 feet, nine inches. Murphy held the previous record, also. Distance runner Rosa Reyes captured the 1,600 and 3,200 and Raven Stanleys 8 feet, six inch jump earned her the high jump.
There arent many girls in North Carolina jumping that high, so thats encouraging, Mitchell said.
The final girls standing were as follows: North Wilkes (67 points), Surry Central (56) and North Surry (35).
In the boys competition, North Wilkes also won with 83 points, followed by Surry Central (55) and North Surry (21).
