– The Mount Airy Police Department is investigating a break-in at Hillbilly Bar and Grill which netted the theft of beer valued at $132. The theft, reported Wednesday, occurred after a glass at the South Street business was broken to gain entry. Seven cases of assorted brands of bottled and canned beer were taken.
– Kay Angela Vargas, 37, of 1250 Newsome St., was served Wednesday with two criminal summonses on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle which were filed in late April and early May. Sheila Spurlin of McBride Road is the complainant in one of the cases, and no others were listed. Vargas is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 29.
– A larceny was reported Tuesday at the D&J Galaxy grocery store on Westfield Road, where a white male suspect about 53 years old allegedly hid a block of cheese and package of fatback in his clothing and left without paying. The merchandise had a total value of $17. The case remains open for further investigation.
– Also Wednesday, police were told that two persons stole beer valued at $11 from Lowes Foods. That case, in which the suspects left in a red 1993 Nissan Maxima, also remains open for further investigation.
