GREENSBORO Gilmer Steven Steve Denny, 60, of Greensboro, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. Mr. Denny was born in Surry County on July 20, 1949, to the late Gilmer Carlin and Ruby Inez Fulk Denny. Mr. Denny honorably served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1969-1970. Steve worked in sales and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pilot Mountain. Mr. Denny is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen Drew and Sloan Denny of High Point, Thomas Carlin and Shannon Denny of Kernersville and Alex Franklin Denny of Pilot Mountain; two grandchildren, McCall Denny and Whitman Denny; and one sister, Frances Allen of Pinnacle. Mr. Denny was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frank Denny. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009, at Whitakers Chapel United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Rodney Stillwell and the Rev. David Raiford officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by King American Legion Post 290. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain is assisting the Denny family.
