DOBSON After a big meet this weekend at the Hagan Stone Park XC Classic in Greensboro, Mount Airy took it easy Tuesday afternoon in Dobson.
Top-runner Matus Kriska took the day off and the Granite Bears paced themselves. But even with that, the Bears Joseph Dalton took home second place in a meet which featured South Stokes and East Wilkes.
Dalton was 54 seconds off top finisher Beau Dudney of East Wilkes, who finished with a time of 18 minutes 1 second.
Mount Airys Bryce Pilcher finished eighth, while the Bears Glenn Lynch, Ryan Johnson, T.J. Maxwell and Cory Scott took the 12 through 15 spots.
Coach Tim Howard said the Bear girls had a strong day, with Sarina Russo and Jordan Hiatt finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Courtney Isaacs finished 11th while Paulina Kriska finished 14th.
The Bears will next take to the course in the Northwest 1A/2A Conference Championship meet, hosted by North Stokes at Fisher River Park in Dobson Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m.
