Three people are being held under large bonds in the Surry County Jail on felony drug charges, involving methamphetamine, after their arrest by Mount Airy police.
Details were announced Thursday concerning the offenses against a Patrick County, Va., woman and two other people with Texas addresses, who were taken into custody Wednesday after a traffic stop in Mount Airy.
Those charged include Nancy Marlene Beck, 39, of 4541 Willis Gap Road, Ararat, Va., who is accused of five felonies: trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, trafficking in methamphetamine by transportation, possession of the drug, manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.
Beck also is charged with a misdemeanor offense, possession of drug paraphernalia.
Also arrested was Abraham Martinez Hernandez, 43, of Westlaco, Texas, on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, trafficking in methamphetamine by transportation, possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance, manufacturing methamphetamine and maintaining a drug vehicle. All are felonies.
Beck and Hernandez were arrested Wednesday morning after a 2000 Chevrolet pickup they were in, with Texas registration, was stopped by city officers on Riverside Drive at East Pine Street.
After further investigation, Cecilia Ramirez, 17, of Dallas, was arrested about five hours later at Microtel Suites on Newsome Street, on a felony offense of possession of methamphetamine.
Beck, Hernandez and Ramirez were confined in the Surry County Jail under $100,000 secured bonds, and remained in custody Thursday night, a spokesman there said.
All three are scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Jan. 19.
