Letters to The News

To the Editor,

This letter is in response to the article in your paper on March 13, 2009, on Don Belle, the Veterans Services director being placed on administrative leave. The article did not specify the charges which puts Col. Belle in a unfavorable light.
I have known Don Belle since 1979 and can attest to his devotion to this country and to the veterans of this area. On a professional basis Don was able to get me into the VA system. Another area he helped me on was a plaque for my deceased father-in-law, a WW2 combat veteran who had previously been turned down for a plaque. I took a copy of his honorable discharge to Dons office, he filed the claim, and within 6 weeks my sister-in-law was notified of the approval for the plaque.
I am sure there are many more instances like this where veterans and their widows have been helped by Col. Belle. I recommend any and all veterans who have been helped by Col. Belle share their experiences with you.
Im sure Col. Belle will be cleared of any charged lodged against him.
Thanks you for printing this.
