Benefits and Fundraisers
Canaan Land cruise-in and antique tractor show, Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., at North Surry High School, a first-time event that also will include chicken stew; gospel music by The Sugarloaf Mountain Band, From the Heart and Everlasting Life; and a 50-50 drawing to benefit charities. Donations from the event sponsored by Cruise-In for Christ and Genesis Full Gospel Church will aid the Canaan Land Childrens Home of Mount Airy. Candy Easter eggs are being sold for $1 each by the Flat Rock Church of God Womens Ministries, with 21 flavors available, including new ones. Among the flavors are peanut butter, coconut cream, lemon meringue, dreamsicle, rocky road, cookies and cream, cherry vanilla and more. Orders can be placed at 789-8948.
Pancake breakfast, April 12, 8 a.m., at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, after a 7:15 a.m. sunrise service, with the menu also to include sausage, coffee and orange juice. Sponsored by the Baptist Men group of the church, the breakfast will be free, with donations to be accepted. Proceeds will aid missions, including a planned trip to Pownal, Vt., in July. Sunday school and a worship service led by the Rev. Robert McCrary are planned afterward, at 9 and 10 a.m., respectively.
A poor mans supper is offered on the third Thursday of each month at Salem United Methodist Church on Wards Gap Road, from 4 to 7 p.m. The menu consists of pinto beans, cabbage, stewed potatoes, corn bread, a drink and homemade dessert at a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for children. Drive-in service is available. Proceeds are aiding a church building fund.
Special Services
Triple J. Jubilee for Jesus revival concludes today at 7 p.m. at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Mountain Park. The service will feature a guest preacher and special singing. Pastor Tony White and the Union Hill congregation invite everyone to attend.
An evangelists/elders seminar begins today at Faith Tabernacle E.P. Church, 559 S. Franklin Road, and continues through Sunday. Evangelist Doris Barnes will preach at todays service at 7:30 p.m., with Elder Craig Smith of Jonesville to preach Saturday at the same time. Mount Zion Baptist Church in Ararat has announced a Bible study each Sunday at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to participate in the study, to be conducted by the Rev. Kermit Gray.
Revival services will begin April 12 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cana, Va., and continue through April 15, 7:30 p.m. each day. The speakers will be the Rev. Louis Martin and the Rev. Isreal Gwyn, Oak Groves pastor, with special singing planned each night.
Revival services at Shining Light Baptist Church, 1056 Pipers Gap Road, to begin Sunday and continue through next Friday, with Sundays service scheduled for 6 p.m. and those the rest of the week at 7 p.m. Brother Leon Holyfield, evangelist, will be the guest speaker and special singing is planned each night. Easter-Related Events
Holy Week activities have been announced for Calvary Baptist Church, 314 S. Franklin Road. On Sunday, a Palm Sunday uplift service is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and a traditional service at 11 a.m., with the Lords Supper to be included. On Maundy Thursday, a special worship service is planned at 7 p.m., with an Easter Egg hunt scheduled the next Saturday. The Easter Sunday slate includes an uplift service at 8 a.m., an Easter breakfast at 8:45 a.m., Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and a traditional worship service, 11 a.m.
The cantata, Because He Lives, will be presented Sunday by the Dobson United Methodist Church Choir under the direction of Kathy Ratcliffe, as part of Palm Sunday activities. It is planned during the 11 a.m. worship service, with everyone welcome. The church is on South Main Street in Dobson.
Easter egg hunt, Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m., at Mount Bethel Moravian Church in Cana, Va.
Presentation of the musical play, It All Happened in the City, by the children of Dobson United Methodist Church, Sunday, 6 p.m. Vocalists Forest Kimbrell, Tonya Beck, Mattie Beck, Carlie Bowers and Walker Hall will be featured. The church is on South Main Street in Dobson.
Combined Lenten service, Sunday, 6 p.m., at Shelton Church of the Brethren, to also include St. Paul Church of the Brethren and First Church of the Brethren. An Easter play is scheduled as part of the event and refreshments will be provided after the service. Everyone is welcome.
Palm Sunday lovefeast, Sunday, 7 p.m., Grace Moravian Church, 1401 N. Main St. This year, everyone is invited to meditate from 6 to 7 p.m. in the churchs prayer garden on the Stations of the Cross, which is set up in the fellowship hall. Holy Week readings are planned Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. each day.
Passion Week readings begin Sunday at Mount Bethel Moravian Church in Cana, Va., and will continue through next Friday, at 7 p.m. each day. This will include Maundy Thursday readings and Holy Communion, along with Good Friday readings and a lovefeast.
Easter cantata and drama, Bow the Knee, Sunday, 7 p.m., Bannertown Baptist Church. Choir Director Cheryl Hicks invites everyone to attend.

Good Friday Service of Darkness, April 10, 7 p.m., Dobson United Methodist Church on South Main Street. The community is invited to the service that will serve as a reminder of Christs pain and suffering on the day of the crucifixion.
An Easter pageant titled I Just Wanted to Know… will be presented April 11 at 6 p.m. at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Thurmond.
Easter sunrise service, April 12, 6:45 a.m., White Plains Friends Meeting, 849 Old Highway 601 in White Plains, with a fellowship breakfast planned afterward. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m. and the worship service at 10 a.m.

Upcoming Events
Operations Inasmuch will be observed at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church on April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. Several projects have been planned for the churchs hands-on local missions, with the public invited to participate. Those interested may call the church office at 786-7435 for more details.
A Walk for Jesus parade is planned May 3 at 3 p.m. in downtown Mount Airy, beginning at the BB&T Bank parking lot and ending at the city post office. Those wishing to participate, who are asked to be at the bank at 2 p.m., can contact Elder Carolyn F. George of the sponsoring Faith Tabernacle E.P. Church at 325-8081 for more information.
Mount Zion Baptist Church at Ararat is seeking craft vendors for its autumn fair scheduled on Sept. 12 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interested crafters are asked to call Jean at 374-5804 for further details.
Miscellaneous
Talent program, Sunday, 4 p.m., at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, 321 N. South St., sponsored by the Steward Board of the church as a way of singing, dancing, praising and participating in clean fun in the name of the Lord.
