There were no doubt an abundance of disappointed high school football players Friday afternoon after they discovered that the Mount Airy 7-on-7 passing camp had been canceled.
With schools from Winston-Salem and Surry County scheduled to face off in some of the first competitive drills of the young season, teams and fans could finally get a glimpse of some of this seasons players to watch.
But it wasnt to be, as the camp was canceled due to inclement weather and concerns over field conditions.
This is the first season the camp has been canceled and there are no plans to reschedule.
North Carolina football teams were allowed to begin official practice at 12:01 a.m. Friday night, with most opting for an early Saturday start time.
Full-contact practices are scheduled to begin Aug. 8, with players confined to just helmets until Monday when shoulder pads are introduced, with all out contact looming Saturday.
