Learn how to make one of the fastest growing art forms. Donna Pumphrey will lead the Artist Trading Card Workshop from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Foothills Arts Council, 129 Church St., Elkin. Artist trading cards are small works of art, 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches, and can be done in any style of media. This workshop is free, and blank cards will be provided. Lorrie Riccitello will be the featured author at the Friends of the Mount Airy Public Library Lunch with the Author program at noon at the library. Riccitello, the owner of Meadows of Dan Trading Company, has written an inspirational novel about her son, Jacob, and their challenge of living with his autism. It is a story of love and perseverance. A boxed lunch will be available for $3. For information, contact the library at 789-5108.

The Franklin Ruritan Club will be hosting a spring pancake supper with buckwheats and sausage gravy from 4:30 to 7:30 a.m. Adults are $5, children 5 to 12 are $3 and children under 5 are free. Proceeds will go towards community projects.
The Round Peak Lodge will be having a pancake supper in the Masonic cafeteria from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 and ages 6 and under are free. Carry-outs are available.
The Copeland Masonic Lodge will be hosting a port-a-pit chicken from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Plates are $8 and carry-outs are available. Proceeds go to the Masonic Home for Children and Masonic Eastern Star Home.

The 2009 Franklin Greyhounds will host the Spring Blue/Grey Football and Cheerleading Recreation Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Surry High School. Everyone from all area schools grades second through eighth are welcome. The Greyhound Pride Awards will immediately follow. A benefit for a cancer patient will be held at the Webb Community Center just across the Virginia state line on Hwy. 52 in Cana. A country-style breakfast, spaghetti supper, rummage sale, raffle drawings and gospel music will be held throughout the afternoon beginning at 7 a.m.
An auction will be held to benefit the Shriners Childrens Homes and burn center at 10 a.m. at 612 E. Main St., Pilot Mountain, inside the East Main Merchandise Building. Carnival glass, antiques, tools, furniture, glassware, glass jars, household items, box lots, antique dolls, old bicycles, old toys, antique baby rocker, blanket dresser, old wringer washer, saddles, jewelry and many more items will be up for sale. The Greater Mount Airy Ministry of Hospitality is sponsoring another community $1 bag it sale on Market Street in Mount Airy between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be ladies, mens and childrens clothing, toys and miscellaneous items up for grabs.
A Doggie Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. Admission is $5 per dog, humans are free. All the proceeds benefit Mayberry 4 Paws Spay and Neuter Program.
