Regional education consortium names new executive director

GREENSBORO The Piedmont Triad Education Consortium named Dr. Larry D. Coble the new executive director effective July 1.
Coble replaces Dr. Frances Jones, who recently resigned after 16 years as executive director.
Coble graduated from Campbell University in 1969 where he received a bachelor of science degree. He then received a master of education in 1973 and an educational doctorate degree in 1978 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Coble earned a post doctoral/advanced study program degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., in 1986.
Coble is working half-time as visiting professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and as president of On Track Press, Inc., a leadership development and educational consulting organization doing business as School Leadership Services. Over his career, he has worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, superintendent of four school districts, senior program associate at the Center for Creative Leadership and director of the Collegium for the Advancement of Schools at UNC-Greensboro.
In addition, Coble has been published in numerous educational journals and has authored seven books of which his most recent is The Essential Leadership Competencies of a School Superintendent. Special recognitions include: The Executive Educator 100 (The Top 100 Outstanding School Executives in North America) and North Carolina Middle School Superintendent of the Year. Throughout his career, he has remained active in many professional associations and civic organizations.
Randolph County Superintendent Donald Andrews stated, We are extremely pleased to have Dr. Larry Coble as the executive director of the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium. We believe Dr. Coble will continue the tradition of excellence that has been set. He has tremendous background as a superintendent. He understands public education and he will move us strategically forward with a vision to meet the needs of all children in our 15 school districts. We certainly want to reassure all stakeholders that our priority is still our commitment to meet the needs of excellence in classroom instruction.
Dr. Don Martin, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools superintendent, added, I think the piedmont region has been fortunate to have great leadership and staff development second to none. I feel confident Dr. Coble will be able to not only continue that quality of staff development, but will allow us to explore new avenues of collaboration.
In addition to being the executive director for the PTEC, Coble will remain affiliated with UNC-G half-time as visiting professor in the School of Education, Department of Educational Leadership. University officials, superintendents and Coble share a great excitement in future possibilities for collaboration.
I am excited to work with the Piedmont area superintendents and their districts to build on the previous work and leadership brought forth by Dr. Frances Jones. My goal is to preserve the very best of the consortium and work with area school systems in moving forward and addressing new needs as they arise. Having been a long time superintendent, I am extremely excited about building authentic relationships and connections with Piedmont area educators, commented Coble. Based on experiences throughout my career, I feel at this time in my life I have found the perfect fit.
The search committee interviewed many worthy candidates. Dr. Coble possessed extensive experiences that the superintendents in the consortium felt would best serve the member systems, commented Dr. Ashley Hinson, Jr., chairman of the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium who also chaired the search for the new director. Hinson also stated that Jones has positioned the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium as a leader in North Carolina and the nation by providing cutting edge staff development. Our top priority is that our classroom teachers have the very best we can provide as they face the challenges of the 21st century.
