WINSTON-SALEM Virgie Bowman McMillian, 99, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born May 6, 1910, in Patrick County, Va., to the late Rufus and Martha Jane Niten Bowman. Ms. McMillian attended Meadowview Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Ms. McMillian was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Preceding here in death was her husband, Maston J. McMillian; four sons, Morgan, Fred, John and Gene McMillian; brothers, Jace, John, Tyrie, Hobert and Charlie Bowman; and sisters, Ila Epperson, Nettie Barnard and Lelia Bergeron. Surviving are three daughters, Kitty Ross,Tina Whitaker and Lynne Noah; son, Edward McMillian; daughters-in-law, Diana McMillian and Ruth McMillian; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Robert Hutchens officiating. Burial was held at Waughtown Cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at the funeral home.
