MOUNT AIRY Ms. Mary Keyes, 70, of Mount Airy, went home to be with her Father in Heaven on Friday evening, Dec. 18, 2009, at Central Continuing Care Nursing Home in Mount Airy. She was born in Harford County, Md., on Aug. 26, 1939, to the late Herbert and Helen Elliott Keyes. She was a retired machine operator for the Bata Shoe Factory and attended Welcome Valley Baptist Church. Surviving are her three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Farrington of Dobson, Priscilla and Maynard Abee of Claremont and Donna Maines of Elkin; six grandchildren, Scott Vandevander, Jeanette and Gabriel Avalos-Beltran, Rebecca Vandevander, Tammy and Mario Avalos-Beltran, Tracy Keyes and Mary Maines; four great-grandchildren, Breana, Emily, Michael and Flor; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Jan Keyes of Maryland and Roy and Joan Keyes of Delaware; and a special family member, Butter Maines. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Welcome Valley Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bill Jenkins will officiate the service. The family will receive friends at Welcome Valley Baptist Church on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
