DANBURY Mrs. Gretal G. Nelson Simmons, 79, widow of the late Elder Leonard B. Simmons of Danbury, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Jan. 6, 1930, in Stokes County to the late Howard Oliver and Eva S. Nelson. Mrs. Simmons worked and retired from Stokes County Schools in the food services department and was a member of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Gretal loved to spend time with her family and friends. She is survived by one son, Kelly Simmons of Danbury; five daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Archie Holt of Danbury, Susan and Johnny Goodson of Mount Airy, Elaine Dillon of Mount Airy, Libby and Keith Collins of Lawsonville and Vicky Simmons of Walnut Cove; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara N. Mabe of Danbury. Preceding Mrs. Simmons in death were her parents, husband, two great-grandchildren and two sisters. Services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Clarence Bowman and Elder Rodney Marshall. Internment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 5, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Barbara Wright, 3660 Horseshoe Road, Westfield, NC 27053. Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain is assisting the Simmons family.
