n An Ararat, Va., resident was jailed Friday on a felony sex-related charge, according to the Mount Airy Police Department.
Dustin Trevor Rooster Thompson, 21, of 810 Farmers Road, is accused of a statutory rape sexual offense allegedly occurring in the city which was investigated by Detective T.E. Hodges. Thompson turned himself in Friday on warrants that had been filed in the case Tuesday and was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on July 23.
James Alvin McBride, 42, of 118 E. Wilson St., was arrested Friday on a warrant for allegedly failing to comply with a court order which had been issued in Stokes County last month. McBride also was served with another warrant from May on an offense of injury to personal property. He was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond and has a court appearance scheduled Monday.
Also Friday, Lester Alexander Gwyn, 52, of 451 W. Virginia St., was arrested for allegedly failing to appear in court on a driving while impaired violation. Gwyn was jailed under a $2,500 secured bond and is facing another court appearance Monday.
Damages estimated at $520 were reported Sunday to buildings and a trailer at Veterans Memorial Park due to someone spraying graffiti. The case remains open for further investigation.
Police were told last Saturday that an unknown person had driven off from the WilcoHess store on Rockford Street without paying for gasoline valued at $41. No description was given for the suspect or vehicle.
Mondee Tilley, a Pippin Street resident, reported on June 4 that a breaking and entering had occurred at her residence sometime in late May or early June. Miscellaneous silverware and sandals were stolen after someone broke a door frame to gain entry. The case remains open for further investigation.
