PILOT MOUNTAIN East Surry High School will be under the direction of a new principal before the end of the 2009-10 school year.
Diane Beane, the principal at Flat Rock Elementary School, will be replacing Tony Hall. Hall has resigned to take a position as assistant superintendent of Alleghany County Schools.
I am extremely honored and excited to work with the staff of East Surry High School. I am anxious to meet the students, parents and staff and to continue the high standards already initiated there, said Bean, who resides in the Westfield community with her husband, Randy, and son, Andrew.
We feel very fortunate to have quality leaders such as Mrs. Beane in the Surry County school system, said Dr. Ashley Hinson, superintendent. Mrs. Beane has proven to be a quality leader and will be an asset to the East Surry community. She will continue to move East Surry strategically forward with a vision to meet the needs of all students.
Beane has served as principal at Flat Rock Elementary since July 1, 2007. She has been a part of Surry County Schools for 25 years, serving as a teaching assistant, a teacher at the elementary and middle school levels, an instructional specialist at the middle school level and an assistant principal at Meadowview Middle School and Copeland Elementary School.
She is a graduate of Gardner-Webb University where she received a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education. She also received a masters degree in elementary education from Gardner-Webb in 1989 and in school administration from Appalachian State University in 2006.
Hall, who is in his seventh year as principal at ESHS, believes the move to Alleghany County will be a bittersweet one.
This move is a great opportunity for me, he said. However, it is not without much regret that I leave East Surry, the best high school around.
The principal vacancy at Flat Rock Elementary will be advertised and filled by the Surry County Board of Education as quickly as possible, school officials said.
