CANA, Va. Two women were sent to the hospital after they hit head-on at the intersection of U.S. 52 and Epworth Church Road Wednesday afternoon.
The Cana Volunteer Fire Department and the Cana Rescue Squad responded to the wreck that was called in at 12:34 p.m. It was initially called in as an entrapment, however, first responders at the wreck scene were able to gain access to both drivers. The women were taken to Northern Hospital of Surry County.
A silver Chevrolet involved in the wreck came to a rest after hitting head-on into the guardrail directly across from Epworth Church Road. The black Suzuki Forenza, which also had extensive front-end damage, came to a rest on the side of the southbound lane.
Chief Richard Sowers of the Cana Volunteer Fire Department said it was pretty clear that one car had pulled out in front of the other. He said both cars were a total loss. He said the driver of the Forenza most likely sustained a broken arm.
Rescuers were able to keep traffic flowing despite the conditions.
Trooper Shawn Rector with the Virginia State Police investigated the wreck. Attempts to reach him for additional details were not successful.
