n The Mount Airy Police Department is investigating a case in which someone tried to steal cigarettes from a local convenience store before fleeing.
The incident was reported Tuesday night at Four Brothers on Holly Springs Road, where a white male concealed Cheyenne cigarettes, a flashlight key chain and a cell phone case in his clothing and attempted to leave without paying. A store employee was able to catch the suspect and recover the items before he left the property in a 1999 blue Honda Civic. The license number of the vehicle was obtained, but an arrest had not been made at last report.
Sherry Norman Wiles, 39, of 1144 Pipers Gap Road, was cited for larceny Tuesday afternoon at Wal-Mart, where a store employee allegedly observed her steal three pairs of blue jeans. Wiles is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 26.
Also Tuesday, Rebecca Kelli Lovette of Jefferies Street reported the theft of a grill cover from her residence.
