MOUNT AIRY Mrs. Gladys Bernice Weaver Neal Bailey, 91, of 724 Rockford St., Mount Airy, slept away peacefully in Gods arms on Monday morning, Sept. 21, 2009, at her residence. Her journey began at birth in Rentisville, Muskogee County, Okla., on June 25, 1918, to her late beloved parents Squire W. Weaver Sr. and Beulah Juanita Sample Weaver Onque. Her teaching career began in 1939, McCurtain County, Okla., and continued to Stokes County, Westfield and Surry County, Mount Airy, and she ended her teaching career in 1978. Her teachings were by example than precept and her philosophy of life was very practical, let your inner beliefs be reflected in the way you live every day. She was united in marriage to Tom Edward Neal and to this union two loving and supportive daughters were born. She leaves to cherish her loving memories forever two daughters, LaDonna N. (James) McCarther of Mount Airy and Cheryl Yellow Fawn Scott of the home; one stepdaughter, Orian Captain of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren, Kimberly S. (Curtis) Campbell of Franklin, Tenn., Krishna S. (Dorian) McKoy of Raleigh, James A. Jaimi Scott Jr. of Statesville, Kara S. Scales of Warner Robins, Ga., and Johnathan Lightfoot of Pembroke; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Bailey; and one brother, Squire W. Weaver Jr. Homegoing Celebration services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m., Sept. 26, 2009, at Edward J. Spencer and Pattie J. Spencer Memorial Chapel, Mount Airy, and interment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens, Mount Airy. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Spencer Funeral Home, Mount Airy. Floral tributes will be excepted, contributions to Gladys Bailey Educational Scholarships Fund, Mrs. Marion Venable, Surry Community College, Dobson, and Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, Mount Airy. Spencer Funeral Directors are in charge of all services and arrangements.
