LAKE CITY, S.C. Mr. Billy Jack Cotton White, 73, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2008, in McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Mr. White was born in Surry County, N.C., on Jan. 28, 1935. He was a son of the late Ernest Slim White and Orpha Pug Quesinberry White, and was married to Shirley Matthews White. Mr. White worked in the Tobacco Market and had been a resident here since 1985. Survivors include three sons, Derrick White of Mount Airy, Randy Hardy (Marla) of Swartz Creek, Mich., and Joey Matthews (Lisa) of Coward; two daughters, Dara White of Mount Airy and Donna Matthews Land (Allen) of Florence; two brothers, Ray White of Mount Airy and Frank Shine White (Barbara) of Davison, Mich.; a sister, Dianne Branch (Joe Bill) of Mount Airy; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. White is preceded in death by a brother, Richel White of Mount Airy. The family of Mr. White will have visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2008, in the funeral home. Funeral services for Mr. White will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2008, in the Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge.
