City police intercept pot delivery

Mount Airy police announced Monday that they had intercepted a shipment of marijuana and arrested a New York man on felony charges as a result.
The case stems from a planned drug haul from New York to the parking lot of the Granite Town Centre shopping center on South Andy Griffith Parkway, investigators say.
Narcotics detectives with the Mount Airy Police Department learned Friday night that a quantity of marijuana was en route to the city. That prompted department members to respond to the shopping center, and after further investigation the arrest was made.
The suspect, Robert Steven Skrzypinski, 30, of Floral Park, N.Y., was found in possession of about 3 pounds of marijuana, police said.
Skrzypinski subsequently was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance and maintaining a drug vehicle.
He was taken to the Mount Airy Police Department, processed and then transported to a magistrates office where a $5,000 secured bond was set in the case.
Skrzypinski was released from the Surry County Jail the next day after posting that bond, a jail spokesman said Monday.
