MILLERS CREEK The Mount Airy girls performance Friday night wasnt just great, it was historic.
The Granite Bears (16-6, 10-4 Northwest 1-A) sank a school-record 19 3-pointers while crushing hapless West Wilkes, 95-51. Mount Airy made 26 of 55 shots and set another school record with 32 second-quarter points.
Tonight was by far our best shooting performance of the year, Mount Airy coach Howard Mayo said.
In spite of his squads excellent shooting performance, Mayo was most pleased by the ball movement.
It really showed our unselfishness because we had people passing up open shots for other people who had better shots, he said.
Leading the way for the Granite Bears was Ellie Case, who scored a career-best 30 points and made seven 3s. Jordan Hiatt (16) and Danielle Williams (10) also scored in double figures.
Laura Cawtrell paced the Blackhawks (5-17, 2-12) with 29 points.
