PILOT MOUNTAIN East Surry picked up a big non-conference win Monday, defeating Elkin 2-1.
The Cardinals Martin Recendiz put home a Chris Hardy corner kick in the 74th minute to give coach Bill Harts squad the victory, improving East to 8-6 overall.
Easts Jorge Salas didnt waste much time to kick off the scoring, putting home a goal off an assist from Jonah Easter in the fourth minute.
Elkins Justin Singh tied the score in the 30th minute off what Hart called a “beautiful” corner kick from Jonathan Grider.
It was a huge non conference win for us, Hart said afterwards. We have always respected Elkin and looked to them as a sign post to where we want our program to be. Last year we tied them 3-3 and this year we got over the hump in a fantastic well fought game.
The Cards will host Bishop McGuinness today at 6:30 p.m.
