MOUNT AIRY Mrs. Betty Jo Brintle Stewart, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Stewart was born in Surry County Aug. 1, 1929, to James Gurney and Lula Bell Mauldin Brintle. She was retired from Spencers Inc. and was a member of Dover Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Wayne York and wife Paula of Greensboro and Greg Stewart and spouse John Kawaharada of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren, Kimberly York Sloan and husband, Carey, and Christopher York and wife, Angela, all of Greensboro; great-grandchildren, Ashley Brame, Joseph York and Adam York, all of Greensboro; and a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Joyce Brintle of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Turner. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Dover Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Cecil Hill and the Rev. Todd Byrd. Mrs. Stewart will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in White Plains Friends Meeting cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
