GREENSBORO The Surry Runnin Patriots boys basketball team felt like it ran into a brick wall Friday night as they surrendered 40 points to Ewing Carter in an 88-75 loss to Caldwell Academy.
Leading Surry (16-11), Daniel Sheaffer scored a team-high 25 points, dished out four assists and grabbed six rebounds, and Luke Hamilton posted a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Aaron Gibbons grabbed five rebounds.
Surry made 13 of its 23 shots from the free throw line and trailed 48-36 at the half.
It was a tough game, Surry Runnin Patriots boys basketball coach Lin Hamilton said. Ewing Carter was just unstoppable. He handled the ball really well. He had 30 points in the first half. Hed just drive, penetrate and dish. He made six of his nine 3-pointers in the first half.
Hamilton said he was happy with his teams performance in the second half.
In the second half, we played with a little more intensity, he said. We were doing some trapping, and we cut the lead down to eight before we started getting into foul trouble. Im proud of my guys. They didnt quit, and they showed a lot of heart.
Surry hosts Patterson Prep School Tuesday.
