– A local woman has been charged with a felony for allegedly obtaining medication illegally at a local drugstore last fall, according to the Mount Airy Police Department.
Lashelle Marie Stanley, 42, of 345 Leonard Road, was arrested Monday on a warrant for a charge of obtaining property by false pretense. Stanley is said to have secured the drug Ceron from Kerr Drug on Independence Boulevard on Oct. 26 without the authorization of a physician. She was freed under a $5,000 unsecured bond Monday and is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 7.
– Engine parts valued at $660 were discovered missing Monday from Weddles Transmission Repair on East Pine Street. Jeffrey Phillip Weddle of the business told police that someone lifted the hood of a 1979 Chevrolet 1500 pickup in the parking lot of the shop and removed a Holley four-barrel carburetor, GM distributor and spark plug wires from the vehicle. The case remains open for further investigation.
– City police issued violations of concealment of merchandise, carrying a concealed weapon and providing false information to an officer against Scott Douglas Spurlin, 45, of 141 Spurlin Lane in Lowgap, on Monday after investigating a reported larceny at Lowes Hardware. Spurlin allegedly concealed a Dewalt power drill and had a 4-inch fixed-blade knife in his back pocket, police say. Spurlin, who also was cited for an open-container violation, is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 13.
– Noah Solomon Israel, a Fancy Gap Road resident, reported Monday that two persons had failed to return his 1997 Mercury Cougar when told to late last week and also allegedly bought items using an ATM card that was left in the vehicle. Police are investigating.
