To the North Carolina State Employee Credit Union Foundation, which this week donated $300,000 to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
The hospice organization is in the midst of a $5 million capital campaign to pay for the building and operation of its new hospice home in Dobson.
All who have donated to this cause are to be commended, and such a gift as the one proffered by the foundation is doubly gratifying to see.
To the Mount Airy Rotary Club on its 60th anniversary.
The Rotary Club, known for regular weekly lunch meetings in most communities, does a tremendous amount of charity work, locally, nationally, and around the world.
It is an organization of people who make life better, and more productive, on a long-term basis around the world.
To Charlie Shelton and the Shelton family, which hands out $1,000 scholarships each year to area youth who are attending Surry Community College or Forsyth Technical Community College.
The scholarships help area youth continue their education, making a better, more prosperous life for themselves.
To the 40 area high school seniors who were named as recipients of the Shelton scholarships. The money is given out not just based on academic performance, but as Charlie Shelton said, based on character.
That the students were name as scholarship recipients speaks highly of each one.
