The North Surry boys tennis team entered the week winless over the past two years. What a difference a week makes.
On Thursday, the Greyhounds earned their second win of the season, a 6-3 victory over visiting Starmount. The win marked the first time North Surry has defeated Starmount since the Rams joined the Mountain Valley 2-A in 2005.
Dylan ONeal, Tyler Davis, C.J. Hunter and Brandon Orndorff each won a singles match. Nik Morgan teamed with ONeal for a doubles win and Hunter and Orndorff closed the show with a second doubles win.
The Greyhounds (2-2, 2-2) travel to Forbush Tuesday.

Alleghany takes out East Surry

PILOT MOUNTAIN East Surry had a tough time with Northwest 1-A opponent Alleghany Thursday, losing to the Trojans 9-0.
Josh Cocca and Charles Crandall were the only East singles players to pick up sets in their respective matches, with Cocca defeating Ben Calhoun 6-2 in the first set before falling 6-0, 6-2.
Crandall also took the first set in his match, defeating Juan Sierra 6-0, before finishing 6-4, 6-4 in favor of Sierra.
I was happy my kids didnt give up, East Surry coach John Martin said of the loss. They kept playing. For a lot of my kids this was the first time getting match experience. Josh Johnsons mother had a medical complication this week and hes a senior, a captain and a leader on the team and it was hard not having him here, but I was really proud of the effort a lot of my kids gave.
East Surry will travel to take on Mount Airy next Tuesday in another Northwest 1-A Conference game.
