Host West Wilkes was the overall team champion but Greyhound coach Eric Jessup said area schools were no slouch.
We wrestled well and it was a fun day, he said. I thought between us, Surry Central and Mount Airy, Surry County was represented really well down there.
The Greyhounds, who are the favorites in the newly formed Northwest 1A/2A Conference lost the overall team score 181.5 to 173.5 to the Blackhawks, whiel Surry Central took home third place with 149 points.
Jessup said he felt his team did well at the tournament despite coming home second.
I was happy with the way we wrestled for this early in the season. Individual tournament are a little different than dual team compettion, because you have so many different individual matchups. Its just a whole different ball game. We do have some things ot work on, I wont say we dont, but I think we are headed in the right direction.
