MOUNT AIRY Mr. Elmer James Dunbar, 90, of 397 Airview Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, May 26, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Dunbar was born March 11, 1919, in Surry County to the late Jesse Columbus and Josephine Jones Dunbar. Mr. Dunbar owned and operated the Dunbar Skating Rink and retired from Perry Manufacturing. Surviving are his wife, Jane Laughridge Dunbar of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and David Hawks of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stonie and Louise Dunbar, James Ray and Sandra Dunbar and Rick and Vicki Dunbar, all of Mount Airy; one stepdaughter and spouse, Katrina and Mike Wall of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dunbar was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Slate Dunbar; and a daughter, Carole Dunbar Gentry. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, May 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with services conducted by the Rev. Todd Byrd and the Rev. Jonathan Barker with entombment in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
