Museum taking donations for auction

The Mount Airy Museum of Regional History is hosting a fundraiser auction on Nov. 12 to honor former director Linda Stanfield, who resigned due to health issues.
Museum board member Bracky Rogers, owner of Rogers Realty & Auction Company, is assisting the museum with the auction. He said the auction will begin at 5 p.m.
Linda did a remarkable job as director, bringing the museum to its present status as a custodian of our regions wonderful history, Rogers said.
As you are probably aware, most organizations who depend primarily on donations to maintain their services to the public are suffering as a result of the state of the economy. We are appealing to business leaders in our area who benefit from the presence of the museum to donate items to sell at auction. We would appreciate a donation of services from businesses or tangible items such as furniture, vehicles or other items preferably with a value of at least $50, Rogers said.
Museum Executive Director Matt Edwards said the museum is heading into its lean time. He hopes at least $20,000 to $25,000 is raised through the auction.
Weve had a very good fall. We are expecting to have a pretty busy time from now up until November. But during the holiday season and on through the early part of next year, we still have to pay the bills, Edwards said.
In order to catalog the donations and advertise them before the auction, the museum requests that donated items be brought to the museum annex no later than Oct. 23. It is suggested that those who want to donate call ahead to either the museum at 786-4478 or Rogers Realty at 789-2926.
We realize that some may not have items or services to donate, in those cases, a donation of cash would be gratefully appreciated. Most donations are tax deductible and could benefit you as well as the museum, Rogers said.
Food will be provided the night of the event by the Dairy Center.
