CUMMING

ALEXANDRIA, Va. Dorothy Dot Nichols Cumming, born on Aug. 21, 1924, in Toast, N.C., to Charlie and Minnie Nichols, passed away peacefully at her home in Alexandria, after a long illness. She was 84 years old. Dot was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Cumming, who died in 1987; and is survived by her loving and devoted companion of 22 years, Peck Chambers. Also surviving are a son, William N. Cumming and his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Mart Martin and her husband Brad, and Eva Casola and her husband Neil; a brother, Herman Nichols and his wife Gaynelle; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Nichols. Dot loved spending time with her seven cherished granddaughters, Carson Stanley and her husband Brady, Heather Twinam, Erica Sullivan and her husband Sean, Lizabeth and Carey Cumming and Brittany and Lauren Barnett, who was recently blessed with the birth of her first great-grandchild, William J. Stanley. Dot had many devoted nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. A celebration of Dots life will be held at Bush Hill Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 12:30 p.m. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at 3 p.m. on the same day.
