East Surry little league sign ups
East Surry little league will its hold baseball and softball sign ups from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. January 24 and January 31 and from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, February 7. All sign ups will be held at the Armfield Civic Center in Pilot Mountain.
Any child attending East Surry, Surry Central or Elkin High School and all of their feeder schools are eligible to participate.
Leagues include T-ball, minor coach pitch, minor player pitch, majors and older divisions. A Challenger division will also be available for mentally and/or physically challenged individuals.
Registration is $85 per child ($65 for t-ball players ages 4-6) but not to exceed $170 for three or more children. A late registration fee of $15 will be charged for sign-ups after February 7. Complete and partial scholarships are available (contact Lyle Bullington at 325-2807 for more information). Birth certificate and proof of home address (drivers license, phone bill, etc.) are required at registration.
Surry Storm tryouts coming
Surry Storm Girls Basketball Club tryouts held at Mount Airy Middle School will start on Jan. 25 for third and fourth grade girls and will run from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tryouts for fifth grade girls are also Jan. 25 and will run from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. For sixth grade girls, tryouts are Jan. 25 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
On Feb. 1, tryouts will be held for third and fourth grade girls from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.,. with tryouts for fifth grade girls held from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and sixth grade girls held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Surry Parks & Rec holds soccer signups
Surry County Parks & Recreation will be holding its 2009 spring signups for soccer on now through Feb. 21 at the Parks & Recreation Office located at 118 Hamby Rd., Suite 336 in Dobson.
Signups are from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from now through Feb. 20. On Feb. 21, signups will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.
To be eligible to play, you must complete the following: pay a registration fee of $35, supply a copy of your birth certificate and completed registration form.
Credit-debit cards are now accepted (MasterCard, Visa & Discover).

Divisions are available for ages 4 to 14, and the games will be held Fisher River Park, Elkin Municipal Park, Chatham Park and Riverside Park.

Cal Ripken League now recruiting
Surry County Cal Ripken Little League Baseball is now recruiting for the Shoals Diamondbacks major and minor ages 8-12. Coaches and Volunteers needed. We will be holding our first annual meeting Sunday, February 1st at 3 p.m. at Eldora Ruritan Building in Ararat. During this time, there will also be signups from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Registration is $65 per child. We encourage all parents to attend. For more information, please call 710-6916.
Tennis Academy being held
Competitive Edge Tennis Academy is holding a tennis prep camp for Surry County middle and high school tennis players this Saturday and Sunday and Feb. 7 and 8.
The camp will be held at Mount Airy High School and is an opportunity for boys and girls to improve their game. The camp will cover all aspects of the game, including stroke technique, singles and doubles strategy, court positioning and fitness drills and tips to improve overall performance.
A mini-camp will also be held for ages 5 to 10. Camp starts at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday for the boys and girls. Mini-camp starts at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for ages 5 to 10.
