DOBSON Mr. Johnnie J. Hayes, 81, of Dobson, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County surrounded by his family. He was born is Surry County on Oct. 6, 1927, to the late William Ted and Martha Cave Hayes. Mr. Hayes was a self employed car dealer and a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force having served our country during WWII. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Thompson and Juan Torres of Dobson; four grandchildren Amie Watson Hall and husband Kevin of Dobson, Joe and wife Amy Thompson of White Plains, Brian Hayes of Mount Airy and Krista Hayes of Elkin; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maurine Gates of Dobson and Gail Holland of Kernersville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thurmond and Joann Hayes of Dobson, Teddy Ray and Betty Hayes of Mount Airy and Ronald and Carol Hayes of Olive Branch, Miss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Burdick Hayes; a son Gary W. Hayes and a brother, Louie Hayes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009, in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral home by the Rev. Jimmy Tucker with burial to follow in Dobson City Cemetery.
