ONEAL
MOUNT AIRY Mr. John Henry ONeal, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. ONeal was born in Surry County Sept. 5, 1926, to L.F. (Fate) and Sally Atkins ONeal. He served our country in the United States Navy during WWII, was retired from the Surry County School System and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Surviving is his devoted wife, Evelyn Strickland Campbell ONeal of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Christy ONeal of Mount Airy; a grandson, Gregory Ross ONeal and wife Amanda of Cottonwood, Ala.; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Elizabeth ONeal; a sister, Vada Carlyle of Winston-Salem; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Ann ONeal also of Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, Mr. ONeal was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Freeman ONeal; a grandson, John Lafayette ONeal; sisters, Ruby O. Foster and Eva O. Fulk; and a half brother, Curlie ONeal. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Keith Love. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
