Bill and Joyce Byrd of White Pines Country Club Road, Mount Airy, observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 18 at the Elks Lodge in Mount Airy. They were married on Dec. 25, 1959, in York, S.C.
Joyce is retired from Proctor Silex and Bill is retired from construction. They have lived most of their lives in Mount Airy. They have three children, William Jr. Billy, Billy Ray, deceased, and Donna, deceased. They have four grandchildren, Ben of Mount Airy, Stephanie of Mount Airy, Rei of Kentucky and Erin of Walnut Cove. They have one great-grandchild, Gracie Leigh of Mount Airy.
Hosting the celebration were their son, Billy, and his wife, Lynn. Despite the snowy weather, many guests were in attendance. The Elks Lodge was decorated in gold and poinsettias for the event. Bill and Joyces nephew, Tim Combs of Mount Airy, escorted the couple to and from their home to the party and was of great assistance during the evening.
Stephanie, Bill and Joyces granddaughter, has been their full-time caregiver and has done a wonderful job tending to their daily needs.
The two-tier poinsettia cake was provided by their granddaughter, Rei.
The staff of Marilyns at the Lodge prepared a wonderful meal. Entertainment and music was provided by Tony Bradshaw and Alvis Stanley of Casino Cruze. The music was a highlight of the evening, playing requests and wonderful dance music.
