To the VFW Post 2019 Ladies Auxiliary, which disbanded recently after more than six decades of existence.
This group worked almost exclusively as a community service organization, supporting the efforts of the VFW, American Legion and other community groups in Mount Airy.
Through the years, hundreds, perhaps more than a thousand, area women have had their names on the membership roll there, and they have done much good work locally. Even the groups final act was one of service, donating its treasury to three local organizations.
Unfortunately, as priorities and interests change over the years, the group had a difficult time bringing in new members. We are sad to see the organization cease to exist, but it most definitely deserves recognition for the work its members did through the years.
To the teachers, support personnel and school volunteers in the area school systems, for taking on the sometimes difficult job of teaching and helping area youth grow into men and women.
Summers here, take a well-deserved break.
To Shelton Vineyards, which hosts a catfish roundup in conjunction with the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Yadkin Valley Wheelin Sportsmen.
The roundup is a chance for disabled folks who might otherwise find it difficult to traipse out into the woods or across fields to have a relaxing, fun day of fishing.
