HILLSVILLE, Va. A 26-year-old Cana man has been arrested for first-degree murder in the death of Justin Wade Edwards, whose badly decomposed body was found Thursday evening in Lambsburg.
According to a press release issued Friday afternoon by the Carroll County Sheriffs Office, Chad James Hall of Cana has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 21-year-old Edwards.
As part of the investigation, Hall also has been charged with the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and obstruction of justice. Carroll County Sheriff Warren Manning called the case an ongoing investigation.
Edwards was reported missing in Carroll on March 6. Manning said Edwards body was found by a citizen walking along Stewarts Creek between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Thursday. Members of the sheriffs office responded to the scene, which Manning described as a big bottom farm land that runs down to a big meadow.
On Friday morning, Manning said the remains could not be identified because they were so badly decomposed, saying they had been at the Stewarts Creek site for possibly over a month.
An identification was made after the body was sent to the Chief Medical Examiners Office in Roanoke, a spokesperson for the sheriffs office said Friday.
