Becoming a jail bird isnt always a bad thing

Eventually, it was bound to happen. Ive landed myself in jail.
This unfortunate happening occurred by no bad deed of my own, but it is at the hands of one of my coworkers.
By now, Im sure you are wondering why I will be serving time behind bars, and why I would be incarcerated if Ive done nothing wrong.
Well, heres the story: a coworker has taken a warrant out on me so that I do my time behind bars to raise money for MDA, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, during its annual lock-up fundraising campaign.
The MDA Lock-Up campaign is designed for local business and community leaders who agree to be arrested for having a big heart, according to www.mda.org.
On Nov. 11, I will gladly be arrested by cops who will pick me up in what I was told would be a glorified paddy wagon, and Ill be taken with other inmates to do our time at the Old North State Winery, where we will each serve at least an hour in an effort to raise bail, which is made in the form of donations to MDA.
I was only served with my warrant for arrest yesterday, so I still have some learning to do about how to raise the funds and where peoples donations should be directed. I likely will be collecting donations myself some, and there will also be a way people can make donations to inmates bails online. The rest of that information will be given to me later this week.
I have spent a short amount of time in jail, but that was during a tour of the Surry County Detention Center and during a visit with local tourism officials to the North Carolina Womens Correctional Facility in Raleigh where the ladies answer calls from people who phone the states tourism hotline.
Coworkers and friends of mine have done time behind bars for MDA before and Ive contributed toward their bail, but Ive not actually been arrested before on my own.
It should be a fun and interesting experience to raise money for a good cause.
Other business leaders and employees in the area will also be participating the same day as I am arrested, and they also will need help meeting their bond goal to be let out.
I will actually spend an hour in the MDA jail and have my picture taken behind bars.
MDA is an organization which raises awareness on the many forms of muscular dystrophy and other muscle diseases, holds clinics nationwide for people who suffer from MD and raises money to research cures and treatments for MD.
According to the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, there are more than 100 diseases with similarities to the nine definite forms of MD, which weaken the muscles used to move the human body. They are characterized by progressive skeletal muscle weakness, defects in muscle proteins and the death of muscle cells and tissue.
MDA special events are a fun way to raise vital funds for the battle against neuromuscular diseases, www.mda.org explains.
So if you hear of anyone being arrested on Nov. 11, know that it is for a good cause and that you can help get them out of jail and help a worthy organization at the same time by donating to the MDA Lock-Up fundraising effort.
