New EDP president welcomed, with high expectations

The Surry County Economic Development Partnership has, after more than five months, filled the job of president.
The partnership hired Todd M. Tucker, who brings more than 15 years of experience with the North Carolina Department of Commerce. Presumably that experience, and contacts he may bring from his time in that office, will put him in a position to effectively recruit businesses to the county.
We welcome Tucker to our community, and we hope hes ready to roll up his sleeves and go to work.
This is a critical time in the history of economic development to Surry County. Large-scale manufacturing is probably a thing of the past, many old recruiting strategies are no longer effective.
Surry County needs bold, innovative thinking, new ways of attracting businesses large and small, and effective methods to retain firms already here.
We hope Tucker is ready to accept those challenges, and that local officials are equally ready to give him the support he needs, and to demand results.
Change wont happen overnight, but with the right leader and innovative strategies, positive change can happen.
