ROCK HILL, S.C. Catherine Veronica Drdak passed away peacefully on June 22, 2009, surrounded by family and loving friends and caregivers. A life-long member of the Catholic church, Catherine was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 23, 1921, to Patrick and Julia Owens. She was one of three children. Her two brothers, William and Jack Owens, preceded her in death. During WWII, she worked in the war industry as a riveter building wings for American bomber aircraft. On Jan. 27, 1945, she married Joseph William Drdak, and they enjoyed 44 years of loving marriage until his death in July 1989. She lived in Philadelphia, Mount Airy and Winston-Salem, N.C., where she made many wonderful friends. For the last two years, she has resided at Morningside Assisted Living in Rock Hill, S.C. She is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rejeania Drdak of Lake Wylie; her grandchildren; and great-granddaughter. She will be missed by all those who knew her and whose spirits she lifted with her beautiful smile, sparkling eyes and indomitable spirit. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4840 Kinnamon Road, Clemmons, N.C., with Father Michael Buttner officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made in Catherines name to Hospice Care of South Carolina, York County, 1230 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
