A silver alert has been issued for a missing Mount Airy man.
City police put out the alert Thursday for William Henry Edmonds, 75, of 834 Willow St. Edmonds had not been found at last report.
A silver alert is designed to quickly disseminate descriptive information about a missing person, so that citizens in the affected area can be on the lookout for the endangered person and notify local law enforcement with any relevant details.
Edmonds is believed to be suffering from demential or another cognitive impairment, according to police.
He has been missing since the nighttime hours Tuesday, with his wife, Margaret Frances Edmonds, notifying police of his disappearance Wednesday morning. She has no knowledge of Edmonds leaving or what time he might have done so.
Edmonds is 6 feet tall and weighs about 105 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black button-up shirt, black pants and black dress-type shoes. He requires assistance in walking and uses a walker, which was left at his residence.
Anyone with information regarding the location or possible location of Edmonds is urged to contact the Mount Airy Police Department immediately at 786-3535.
