Despite a fire that swept through the building early Sunday morning, the congregation of Closer Walk Baptist Church will continue to meet together to worship.
Pastor Doug Cockerham arranged for members to meet Wednesday night at the Franklin Ruritan Building for the scheduled weekly prayer meeting, and nearly everyone in the church showed up. The church will continue to hold Sunday and Wednesday services at the Ruritan building, located on W. Pine Street just past the intersection with Franklin Road.
The plan is to use the Ruritan building until the church can be restored from damage caused by a fire which started in a bathroom off the fellowship hall when someone broke into the church just after 2 a.m. on Sunday. Police are still investigating the case and are looking for information.
The church will still host its revival planned for Aug. 3 through 7 beginning at 7 p.m. each day. The revival also will take place in the Ruritan building with Jeff Cassell leading and singers scheduled each night.
The church holds Sunday services beginning at 11 a.m. with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and an evening service at 6 p.m.
