TULSA, Okla. Lois Gwyn van Wyke, 97, peacefully left this life to join her Heavenly family on April 13, 2009. She was able to spend her last months in the presence of her family, thoroughly enjoying her time with her three children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As Lois wished, her beloved daughter, Ann, was at her side holding her hand during her passing to the next life. Lois Ann Gwyn was born on April 11, 1912, in Mount Airy. Lois is the daughter of Annie Lee Jones and Albert Gwyn, sister to Chester, Tom and Will Gwyn and widow of Jack van Wyke. Lois graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1930, was in the school French club and attended the First Baptist Church with her family as a child. Lois met and married the love of her life, Jack van Wyke, a petroleum engineer in California, and went on to live throughout the United States and Canada, raising her family of three children, retiring in Tulsa. Surviving Lois are her three children, Ann Fontana (Larry), Peter J. van Wyke (Carol) and John D. van Wyke (Lindy); nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all those who contributed to the joy and happiness of Lois life. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Lois memory and assist others who need help are requested to make donations to The San Diego Hospice Foundation, 4311 Third Ave., San Diego, CA 92103, who gave Lois tender, compassionate care and comfort in her last days. In Tulsa, the Lois van Wyke Memorial Fund has been set up through Select Life Management, 10810 E. 45th St., Suite 310, Tulsa, OK 74146. The organizations unparalleled attention and caring greatly enriched the quality of Lois life. For those in Mount Airy wishing to celebrate Loiss memory, a memorial tea at the First Baptist Church will be announced in the near future.
