KERNERSVILLEMr. Wade Gilmer Jurney, Sr., 66, of Kernersville, passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his devoted family. He was born Dec. 11, 1942, in Surry County to William L. and Esther Harrell Jurney. He was a veteran of serving in the United States Air Force. Mr. Jurney was the owner and operator of Jurney Construction for the past 30 years and was a member of the Homebuilders Association. He had a great sense of humor. Mr. Jurney participated in two research studies with diabetes and alzheimers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He was preceded in death by his sister, Claudia Bell. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Brenda Powell Jurney; three children, Antionette Jurney Branson (Jim) of Graham, Kelly Jurney Simmons of Kernersville and Wade Jurney, Jr. (Karen) of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Lane Summerlin, Ali Brooks, Carson Simmons, Erica Jurney-Harrelson, Sydney Jurney and Emma Simmons; one sister, Cindy Hockman (John) of Chesapeake, Va. and two brothers, Tony Jurney (Maria Guerrera) of Alexandria, Va. and Bobby Jurney of Mount Airy. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at the family home, 519 Bluff School Rd., Kernersville with the Rev. Steve Monroe officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
