To all the volunteers who turned out for todays Community Cares Day, sponsored by the United Fund of Surry County.
This is a wonderful way for local community service agencies to get some much-needed work done around their buildings, at little or no cost. Its also an equally nice way for area individuals and businesses to show their community support by volunteering a few hours of their time.
To the Surry Longspurs and Yadkin Valley Wheelin Sportsmen for hosting their second annual dove hunt this past week.
The dove hunt is specifically for those who are physically handicapped and presents a chance for these individuals to enjoy outdoors and participate in traditional hunting exercises.
For some, its their only chance to do so, and the Sportsmen are becoming more active, it seems, every year in providing such hunting and fishing opportunities.
To the Surry County Parks and Recreation Department and the Cooperative Extension service for offering a free event that is both fun for the family and focuses on the importance of agriculture in local life and finance.
The event is going on today at Fisher River Park in Dobson, and offers a fun way for folks to spend an afternoon with their family and friends, all the while learning a little about the role agriculture plays locally.
