An accident involving a tractor-trailer caused telephone service to be disrupted in the White Plains area Friday.
The problem occurred when the truck ran into a utility pole on McKinney Road, which affected hundreds of feet of telephone line.
It led to the Surry County Communications/Operations Center advising that cell phones should be used by residents needing 911 assistance instead of landlines.
Initial reports indicated that the telephone service was to be out for much of Friday in the White Plains area.
However, the system had been repaired by Saturday, according to a spokesman for the county communications unit.
Everythings back to normal, he said. Nobodys out of service now.
