Easter sinks hole-in-one

Jeff Easter scored every golfers dream Saturday morning, sinking a hole-in-one at White Pines Country Club in Mount Airy.
William Venable with White Pines Country Club said Easters feat came on the courses 145 yard Par 3 second hole with a seven iron.
Venable said it was the first recorded hole-in-one at the course in two years.
Randy Stevens, Roscoe Easter and Junior Bledsoe were witness to Easters shot.
Golfers needed

PILOT MOUNTAIN Golfers are in demand for a charity event to benefit Childrens Miracle Network.
The charity golf tournament is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. June 10 at Pilot Knob Park Country Club. The cost is $50 per player and $200 for Captains Choice teams. Fees include cart and green fees, as well as a goody bag. All proceeds benefit the Duke Childrens Hospital through the Childrens Miracle Network.
The event will be sponsored by the Mount Airy Wal-Mart. That store raises the most money of any Wal-Mart in the Triad for the Childrens Miracle Network. Last year it turned in over $65,000. John Lichvar, a Wal-Mart employee and member of the Caring Hands committee, said 10 golf teams have signed up, but more are needed.
We have a good turnout, usually, but this time were way short, Lichvar said. We need golfers to sign up. Everyone has a good time and its for a great cause.

Girls basketball camp

The Mount Airy Lady Bears basketball team will hold its annual basketball camp the week of June 29-July 2. The camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mount Airy Middle School. The cost of $65 must be paid by June 19, afterwards the cost will be $75. Each camper will receive instruction from the Lady Bear basketball staff and a 2009 Lady Bear basketball camp T-shirt. Lunch may be purchased at the camp store. Campers may also bring lunch. Applications may be picked up at the MAHS office or other area schools. Family volleyball camp

PILOT MOUNTAIN The East Surry volleyball program will host a family volleyball camp on June 7 and June 14 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the East Surry High School gymnasium. The camp is open to girls and boys in the East Surry district who will be starting grades three through six during the 2009-2010 school year. All child participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents will be working with their child on the court in order to learn more about volleyball skills and the game of volleyball.
The East Surry and Pilot Mountain Middle School volleyball coaching staff, current college players and former high school players will be providing instruction and support during the camp.
The cost for this two-day camp is $25. Pre-registration is required and is open to the first 40 child participants. Registration forms are available in the front offices at Shoals Elementary School, Westfield Elementary School, Pilot Mountain Middle School, East Surry High School and at the Armfield Civic Center front desk. East Surry Basketball camp

PILOT MOUNTAIN The East Surry High School boys basketball camp will take place from June 15-19 at East Surry High Schools gymnasium.
The camp will run from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. until noon on Friday.
Encouraged to apply are boys entering fourth through eighth grade. The cost is $100 per child and $150 for two. Lunch will be provided each day and players will receive a free T-shirt. For more information, call Jason Anderson at 749-9028 or 368-2251.

The Surry County Sports Hall of Fame is accepting applications for future members. Hall of Fame nominations recognize individuals for outstanding achievement in the field of athletics as a player, coach or administrator. Ring of Honor nominations recognize individuals, teams, corporations or companies that have made a significant impact on the local sports scene.
