MOUNT AIRY Mr. Louis M. Howell, 79 of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Howell was born in Wilkes County, Nov. 4, 1929, to Luther M. and Esther Mae Emerson Howell. He served our country in the United Sates Army in the 82nd Airborne Division and retired from Bassett Furniture. Mr. Howell worked in his beloved flea market business for many years before and after his retirement. Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Janet H. Horton of Mount Airy, Paula H. McDowell of Cornelius and Amy and Kevin Dawson of Mount Airy; two sons, Dennis Howell of Jonesville and Wesley Howell of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Alexander Howell, Virginia H. Westmark, William Horton, Stacie Horton, Benjamin Jennings, Nicholas Jennings and Jacob Howell; six great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; a sister, Mattie Lou Banach of Redding, Calif.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Carolyn Howell of Tulsa, Okla. In addition to his parents, Mr. Howell was preceded in death by two sons, David Howell and James Howell; and by a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Horton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Vldimir Strejcek.
